rallies - what you need to know

kids rally - tuesdays 6-8pm

First Junior Rally (unmounted) - Tue 10th October 2023. Mounted Junior Rallies and the Introduction to Pony Club programme kick off on Tue 17th October 2023.

The pony club rally season runs from October to April (daylight savings hours). At MPC we cater for lead rein riders all the way up to competitive senior riders.

Our Tuesday night riders are classified either as Junior (under 18) or Senior (18-25 years). Riders aged 21-25 can choose to join the Kids Rally (working towards NZPCA Certificates) or the Wednesday Adult Rally.

There are 20 rallies in the season. 10 are held before the Christmas holidays and 10 more run from late January. The majority of rallies are 'mounted' (ridden/practical) but some are also theory based to cover the NZPCA curriculum. Members are placed into rally groups depending on which NZPCA Certificate they are studying for. The requirements for each certificate are set out in the NZ Pony Club Association manuals.

Uniform

Order your MPC Uniform at our online store here.

Riders are expected to be in uniform (MPC shirt with optional jacket, black or beige jodphurs, jodhpur boots or long boots and a MPC saddle blanket) and with their ponies tacked up on time for a pre-rally briefing at the clubroom at 5.50pm. Our Head Coach will then deliver any announcements and notices before riders break into their rally groups for a 6pm start. A ridden rally usually consists of Dressage, Show Jumping and/or Cross Country.

Our club canteen is open on Tuesday evenings and run by our lovely Canteen Manager with the help of members families on a rostered basis.

Adult Ride - Wednesdays 6-8pm

First Adult Rally - Wed 11th October 2023

At MPC we are proud to offer a weekly Adult Rally. Throughout the season we have approximately 20 riders and 3 wonderful coaches. Adult rally is less formal than kids rally but we appreciate riders presenting themselves and their horses in a clean tidy manner and arriving for rally on time. Rallies consist of dressage, showjumping, cross country or a mixture. Adults are given a choice on which group they wish to participate in on a week to week basis. Groups are at times divided into green/nervous riders and confident/advanced riders but we do encourage everyone to ‘have a go’ and ride together in a supportive and most importantly fun environment.
