About Massey Pony Club

Our Youth Rallies are held every Tuesday and Wednesday night from 6.00 pm - 8.00 pm. Our season runs from the beginning of October, weather permitting through until the end of daylight saving.

Our 2010 – 2011 head Instructor is Sue Coleman. Sue has been an Instructor at Massey Pony Club for 14 years and a member for even longer. Sue is an enlightened and fun loving coach, who knows how to encourage and bring out the best in our children. Sue has run many of our ends of season camps and is well loved by all our children. Her sense of fun and laughter will bring to our club a change and we look forward to welcoming her in this new role.

We will have 8 - 10 rides available with excellent Instructors who are all respected and have achieved within the equestrian world. Our syllabus caters for children who are just beginning to those who want to achieve in certificates and those that just want to have fun.

If you have a problem in your ride we recommend the following procedure for resolution.

1. Please try talking to the Instructor quietly

2. If you feel the Instructor is not listening or you are making no progress please see Sue Coleman. She is very approachable and will do her best to resolve any issues.

During Rally we also ask that you do not try to instruct from the sidelines as this can be very upsetting for your child as well as the instructor. We love you to watch but ask that you respect the Instructors and do not try to interfere.

During Rally times it is important to be on time and if leaving early please ask to be excused so that your Instructor realises that you are leaving. We ask that you treat your Instructors with respect and listen to what they have to say. It is also asked that you do not swap rides. If you are doing an activity that you do not want to be a part of speak to your Instructor or Sue and they will help you.

We also ask that on Tuesday nights with our rally being so big that other members do not use the grounds, and if you are not participating in the rally you do not ride on the grounds.

On Wednesday nights our Senior Rally and Adult Rally is held from 6.30pm – 8.00pm.

Our Adult Rallies are very friendly and as well as having rallies also have small competitions. They are always fun and anyone over the age of 21 is welcome to join. We do make exceptions for younger riders who are at University or unable to be a part of our youth rallies , however this is at the discretion of the committee and is a case by case situation.

On Monday nights we try to encourage games within the club for all members both Adult and Child. It is an opportunity to ride together and enjoy the fun and team spirit that mounted games encourages.

We try to supply a coach for the Monday night games and this is open to all members who wish to participate. It is also open to outside members from other branches who wish to share in this night and is an effort to open up games to as many people who wish to participate. Games is a great opportunity to improve your riding while enjoying yourself and is a great team building experience for both ponies and riders.

We also hold two Holiday coaching camps. These are Monday – Friday residential camps that offer five two hour rallies with excellent coaches and afternoon clinics in games, dressage, show jumping & x country. The Friday Afternoon sees a small competition to finish up with. These weeks are very beneficial to all our children and are truly worthwhile experiences. They are an opportunity to make new friends and are open to all riders no matter where you come from. We do offer discounts for our own members who help with the care giving and running of the camps. These camps are fully catered for with excellent meals provided. During these courses we try to engage several New Zealand recognised instructors for coaching clinics in the afternoon sessions.

Our Holiday coaching camps are used to help fundraise for equipment and to keep upgrading our X Country course. These funds are all put back in to benefit our club and we are lucky to have so many individuals who are happy to work as a team.

Each year we try to hold two full One Day Events: - a competition that tests you in Dressage, Show Jumping and X Country. (we would hold more but our Area Waitemata Rodney Calendar is too full to fit more in).

We also hold two ribbon days: - a chance to test your skill in both flat riding classes and afternoon jumping classes. We also hope to try and incorporate some friendly games competitions in this years calendar. And don’t forget our annual mid winter Hoe Down, a chance for everyone, to drink eat and be merry.

Our Canteen is open every Tuesday night and supplies wholesome meals for our members to purchase, meaning you don’t have to run home and get a meal on Tuesday night.

Come along and enjoy.
